Emotions (1991) is the second studio album by American singer-songwriter Mariah Carey. It was released on September 17, 1991, by Columbia Records.
Emotions debuted at number four on the US Billboard 200 chart, with first-week sales of 129,000 units, surprising critics following the success of her 1990 self-titled debut album. In total, the album spent 27 weeks in the top twenty and a total of 54 weeks on the albums chart. Though it was her second consecutive top-ten album in the US, it remained Carey's lowest-peaking album there until Glitter (2001). Emotions was certified 4× Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), denoting shipments of four million copies within the United States.[54] According to Nielsen SoundScan, the album's stateside sales are estimated at 3,595,000. In Canada, Emotions debuted at number fourteen, on the Canadian RPM Albums Chart issue dated October 5, 1991.
