Lagos No Shaking is a milestone studio album by legendary Nigerian drummer and Afrobeat co-creator Tony Allen, released on February 20, 2006, through [Honest Jon's Records](0.5.1, 0.5.14). The title translates from Yoruba Nigerian slang to mean "Lagos is doing fine" or "Lagos is cool," signaling a triumphant literal and musical homecoming.
Recorded over ten all-night sessions in the Ikeja district of Lagos, the album marked Allen's return to the unadulterated, raw Afrobeat sound he famously pioneered in the 1970s alongside Fela Kuti. It discarded the electronic and nu-jazz fusions of his previous solo efforts in favor of heavy polyrhythms, call-and-response vocals, and driving brass arrangements.
