Surprise

Surprise is the independent debut studio album by the American alternative rock band Better Than Ezra, recorded in 1989 and officially circulated on cassette tape in 1990.

It holds a unique place in the band's history as the only album to feature all four original members: Kevin Griffin (vocals/guitar), Cary Bonnecaze (drums), Tom Drummond (bass), and Joel Rundell (lead guitar). Tragically, lead guitarist Joel Rundell passed away by suicide on August 8, 1990, shortly after the album's release. Following a hiatus, the remaining members continued as a trio and later broke into the mainstream with their 1993 multi-platinum album Deluxe.
