Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends
Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends (2008), often referred to as simply Viva la Vida, is the fourth studio album by the British rock band Coldplay, released on 12 June 2008 by Parlophone in the United Kingdom. "Viva la vida" is a Spanish phrase, translated to English as "long live life" or simply "live life". Lyrically, the album contains references to love, life, death and war.
In the United Kingdom, the record sold 125,000 copies on its first day and 302,074 in three days, debuting at number one on the UK Albums Chart. After ten days, Viva la Vida had surpassed 500,000 copies sold, beating the first-week numbers of X&Y. As of October 2021, the album has sold over 1.5 million copies in the country. It spent 11 non-consecutive weeks atop the European Top 100 Albums chart in 2008.
